We wrote and article earlier this year about FA rulings on matching colour baselayers with the message underlayers must match the main colour of team kit, however some may have not got that message.
Bath City had five players sent off in an FA Youth Cup tie following a row over undershorts being a different colour. City boss Billy Clark was also sent off by referee Darren Adie, who ruled players’ underwear breached rules during Newport County’s 6-0 win. Underwear must be the same colour as the shorts but Bath’s white pants were visible below their black shorts, and by letter of the law players had to be sent off for not meeting the requirements.
While the rule might be a little daft, and sending off players somewhat extreme, the FA have made a clear demonstration on the importance of this rule, and that custom colour baselayers and undershorts are now an essential part of the modern matchday kit.
